With Republicans introducing a bill in congress to prohibit all Chinese students from obtaining student visas, the immigration crackdown has escalated to absurd levels. This is a warning indicator for all overseas students, particularly Indians, and isn't exclusive to China.

For many years, china was the largest provider of students, but india just overtook it.  What's stopping US politicians from severing ties with india if they are prepared to do the same to one of their largest sources of overseas students?

This bill's logic is even more ludicrous. Out of almost 300,000 students, only five were arrested last year, despite their claims that Chinese students pose a security danger. The security justification is merely a front for this harsh assault on international students. This law might create a risky precedent if it passes.

Furthermore, this is worse for the US economy than it is for Chinese and indian students.  International students, particularly those from these two nations, are a major source of revenue for universities.

Through OPT and H-1B visas, indian talent is essential to even STEM enterprises.  Rejecting students and skilled workers might worsen the US recession, which experts have already warned is imminent.  It might be india tomorrow, but it's china today. Stricter background checks, not this absurd ban, are the answer if security is the problem.
