The supreme court denied a woman's request for her husband to pay her alimony. According to the court, the woman works and is in the same role as her husband. She is capable of caring for herself in such a circumstance. A bench consisting of Justices Abhay S. Oka and Ujjwal Bhuyan declined to provide the woman with relief. As an associate professor, the lady had requested alimony from her husband.

In its brief ruling, the court stated that the husband and wife are both assistant professors.  There is no justification for us to use our authority under Article 136 of the indian Constitution in such a circumstance.  The petition for special leave is denied.  The woman's plea for alimony was being heard by the supreme court bench.

What is the wife's income?

The Times of india reported that the husband had resisted the wife's request for alimony.  According to the spouse, the lady does not require alimony because she is employed.  Shashank Singh, the husband's attorney, informed the court that the wife makes about Rs 60,000 per month.  The position of the husband and wife is the same.

The wife's argument was unsuccessful.

However, the wife contended that she was entitled to alimony.  The husband is nonetheless accountable for paying alimony notwithstanding the wife's income and qualifications.  Her spouse makes about Rs 1 lakh a month, she informed the bench.  The court ordered both of them to provide their wage slips for the previous year since there was a disagreement regarding their monthly income. After her alimony claim was denied by the madhya pradesh high court and the lower court, the woman went to the supreme Court.
