The magazine was informed by sources that Choksi allegedly submitted fake declarations and forged paperwork, among other misleading and fabricated material, in order to be granted residency. According to reports, he also concealed the fact that he was a citizen of both india and Antigua.
Additionally, it has been reported that indian officials have asked the Belgian government to extradite Choksi. But things are made more difficult by his recently obtained Belgian residency, which allows him to move freely throughout europe and makes it more difficult to bring him back to india for trial.
The matter is made more complicated by reports that Choksi intends to relocate to switzerland to receive medical care at the renowned cancer facility Hirslanden Klinik Aarau. This action is perceived as just another attempt to postpone his extradition proceedings by citing humanitarian concerns.
Choksi has been designated a Fugitive Economic Offender (FEO) by the indian government due to his fraudulent operations, which include a large-scale financial swindle. In connection with the notorious punjab National bank (PNB) fraud case, in which he and his nephew Nirav Modi defrauded the bank of more than Rs 14,000 crore, the fugitive diamantaire is wanted. The fraud is regarded as one of the biggest in indian financial history.
