'Bangladesh army Chief does not like Yunus', this leader's claim?
Amid the ongoing movement to remove Sheikh Hasina from power in bangladesh, tensions between the army and student leaders are increasing. Hasnat Abdullah, the main organizer of the newly formed Jatiya Nagrik party (NCP), has made a big claim about army Chief General Waqar uz-Zaman. According to Hasnat, General Zaman was not keen to appoint Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus as an advisor.
In a viral video, Hasnat Abdullah said that the army Chief did not consider Mohammad Yunus suitable for this role, questioning his credentials. General Zaman also said that despite Yunus being a Nobel laureate and his reformist image, he was not the right person for this responsibility. The army Chief had stressed the need to hand over the reins of the country to the right hands.
Conspiracy against army Chief Zaman
Differences between Lieutenant General Mohammad Faizur rahman and army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman have also complicated the situation. Zaman's opposing generals, led by Faizur Rahman, had made efforts to remove him from the post, but they failed. General Zaman is being seen as a pro-India and balanced leader, due to which the professional ranks of the army are standing in his support.
Let us tell you that there are two factions within the bangladesh Army. One faction supports organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami, while the other is associated with the Awami League. The tension that has emerged between these factions has further deepened the differences within the army, making the situation unstable.
BNP's alliance with the army
Meanwhile, reports came that Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman has been placed under house arrest. Faizur rahman is accused of meeting the Pakistani ISI Chief, which is being considered a conspiracy against army Chief Zaman. The bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP) has described these incidents as a conspiracy to postpone the elections and called the allegations an attempt to defame the army.
