Sankar, the co-founder of the HR-tech startup Rippling, who has since left the company, said in a series of posts on X on sunday night that he was "on the run" from chennai police enforcement after his divorced wife filed a report saying that he "kidnapped" their son. He said, however, that the police are "illegally without any FIR" monitoring his IP address, UPI, car, and cell phone whereabouts.
The claims made by Techie
Sankar stated that they had been divorcing because his wife had been having an affair. He said that she was upset with the parameters of the amount he had to pay her, which they were negotiating.
"She decided to instead file a fake police complaint against me saying I hit her. Later, she made further fake complaints that I raped her (1 mo after the alleged rape). That I circulated her nude videos. etc. singapore police have investigated these allegations, found them baseless, and have cleared me from all charges," Sankar wrote.
The internet entrepreneur filed an international child abduction case after claiming that his wife "abducted" their nine-year-old kid to the United States. He asserted that the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) after the US court decided in his favor. According to the arrangement, Sankar was required to share joint custody of their son and pay his wife around Rs 9 crore and Rs 4.3 lakh each month.
After that, Dhivya and he worked out a deal for him to visit chennai and split custody of their son, which he said did occur for a while.
However, when his wife disregarded the Memorandum of Understanding, particularly over the deposit of their child's passport in a common locker, the two became increasingly tense.
"She started claiming that the MOU is not valid and she wants more and will go to the US again to file a divorce, Sankar said.
This resulted in a further legal battle with Sankar approaching the courts saying he would only share the custody of their son after the passport was deposited in the locker. "She did not attend the courts. Instead, she showed up at my hotel at 10 PM the night and called my son to the lobby for 10 minutes luring him which I stopped. She then chose to call the police and filed a kidnapping complaint against me," he said.
Fearing wrongful arrest, the techie fled with his son as the police knocked on their door.
Sankar claims that he even gave the police evidence that his son was "happy" and safe, but they still looked for him. To my amazement, the police were still attempting to find me. He wrote on X, "They came to my mom's house and asked for me.
The techie further asserted that Gokul, a buddy who assisted in picking up the child from his estranged wife, was arrested by the police without a warrant.
"He has been detained without a FIR for the past three days. They are warning him that he will be harassed if he doesn't give up. He has not been presented to a magistrate by them. Rather, they summon him to the station each morning, have him wait until nightfall, and then release him. More recently, he has threatened to put me in trouble if I don't take down my twitter posts. They've told him to inform him, and if he doesn't, they'll find me and force me to deal with the fallout," Sankar wrote.
He also claimed that the police seized the phone of a caretaker he had paid Rs 200 via UPI and raided an Airbnb where he stayed. "Luckily got out before," he said.
"Police and my wife will be conducting a joint press meet soon to accuse me of many crimes. They've also asked my friend Gokul to sign saying my social media tweets are false. To all supporters - to be clear. I'm feeling the most alive right now and it's great. I built an empire from nothing. I can handle this even if a state is on the other side. I'm a survivor, not a victim," Sankar wrote.
Sankar, then, accused the chennai police of trying to extort him of Rs 25 lakh in order to release Gokul.
"The Thirumangalam, chennai police station is harassing me for money knowing that I'm a successful founder. The AC and the SI have asked me for 25L to release my friend who has been in custody. Please RT for support," he wrote in a post on X.
According to local media, a senior police official in chennai condemned Sankar's claims as "baseless" and refuted them.
What Techie's spouse asserted
In her complaint, Dhivya allegedly accused Sankar of "wrongdoing" and claimed that their son had been stolen from her by force and had never been returned, according to stories in the local media.
According to the woman, she and her kid are U.S. citizens. She claimed that once they returned to india earlier this month, Sankar snatched their son away from her.
"We returned to india and I thought at least now my son and I could live peacefully but he is not allowing that too," she continued.
She even allegedly referred to him as a "sex predator," saying that he had previously "secretly recorded women," for which he had been imprisoned in singapore before being freed.
Additionally, according to reports, Dhivya accused Sankar of moving their marital assets to his father's name in order to avoid paying taxes. She claims that these assets were given to Sankar's brother in thailand by his father. According to reports, she also claimed that the technician "threatened" her with signing paperwork that stopped her from disclosing tax offenses in the US.
