With consecutive blockbusters in a variety of genres, the malayalam film industry stunned indian cinema last year and set new records for box office receipts.  However, the malayalam industry appears to have suffered a significant setback at the beginning of this year.  Only one of the 17 malayalam films that were released in february, Officer on Duty, is said to have been successful, with the other 16 films being complete failures.

Furthermore, these 17 films had a combined expenditure of about 73 crores, but only about 23.5 crores were made at the box office. Kerala's film production companies have been taken aback by these figures, which show that the malayalam industry is currently experiencing a severe crisis and is working to make upcoming films successful at the box office.

Trade analysts then said on social media that this is only a february report and that things might get better in March.  Numerous high-profile films are already scheduled for release, including L2: Empuraan, which is scheduled for march 27.  It is unclear, nevertheless, if the malayalam industry would bounce back from this significant setback in the upcoming months. Let's hope for the best!
