The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is witnessing a concerning rise in divorce cases.  In actuality, a lot of marriages in this nation are dissolving within a few hours or days. The uae Ministry of Justice recently reported that 448 divorces were filed in four emirates in 2024, with some marriages dissolving within a day. The romance collapsed within 24 hours of marriage in some surprising divorce instances in the United Arab Emirates.

The study claims that some divorces were filed in as little as five, seven, or even a month.  However, a large number of long-term marriages, particularly those between 30 and 47 years, also ended in divorce.  According to legal experts and social academics, mismatched relationships, picking the wrong spouse, personality conflicts, and a lack of conflict resolution skills are the main causes of these speedy divorces.

Divorce statistics
In addition, family meddling and social media are two more reasons that contribute to divorce. According to experts, young couples are choosing to end their relationships quickly these days rather than sticking together.

There were 217 divorces in Sharjah, 139 in Ajman, 70 in Fujairah, and 22 in Umm Al-Quwain out of the 448 divorces that were recorded in 2024.  The number of divorces by nationality was 198 for Emirati couples, 135 for expatriate couples, 102 for Emirati husbands and non-Emirati wives, and 13 for Emirati wives and non-Emirati husbands.

Marriage law and growing concerns
If it serves their interests, expats are permitted by the UAE's Personal Status Law to marry and divorce following the laws of their home country.  According to experts, good marriages require a lot of social work.  It's crucial to receive premarital counseling and cultivate the proper attitude to keep a marriage intact.

Government efforts and legal changes
To promote marital stability, the uae government recently modified its marriage regulations.  The new regulations are intended to improve family stability and reduce the growing number of divorces.  Divorce is not a quick fix, according to experts, but it is crucial to learn how to keep a marriage intact.  For the purpose of halting this expanding issue, the government is working to educate families and raise awareness.
