The last step appears to be getting an H1B visa authorized at the consulate.  However, even after approval, many continue to face unanticipated delays.  Their visa status remains in the "Approved" state for days or even weeks.  Recently, one such example surfaced in Hyderabad.  On march 10, a candidate had a smooth interview and was approved in a matter of seconds.  However, the H1B visa was still not issued a week later.  According to some, a visa may be subject to further security checks if it is not issued within seven days.

This is a stressful situation for those who are waiting.  There are no clear answers, travel plans are thrown off, and jobs are at stake.  In this case, remote employment is prohibited by the applicant's employer.  They lose money as a result, and their performance review may suffer.  There are valid concerns raised by these delays.

Shouldn't the candidates be informed if further checks are necessary?  People become frustrated and lost when updates are not provided.  The procedure needs to be more open.  Applicants for H1B visas already face too much uncertainty.  They could plan their lives with a clear approach and better communication.
