Losing your work just two days before the lottery seems dreadful, but being fired off is a terrible experience for any H-1B employee. One H1B employee talked about their terrible experience of being fired after eight months. They now have 60 days to find a new sponsor or leave the United States, so the clock is ticking.

The foreign worker provides additional information regarding the layoffs, stating that they were the only H1B employee hit hard by "restructuring."  The job itself has been eliminated, but their firm has been providing severance pay for more than two months.  They are currently unsure if their visa is extended by the "separation date."

Instead of receiving severance, which is extremely unlikely but still worth trying, netizens advise negotiating to remain on payroll.  To find out when the visa actually expires, some advise contacting payroll as soon as possible.  Permanent choices, however, are limited to hoping the transfer is filed on time and finding employment within 60 days. Layoffs are more than just losing a paycheck for H1B employees.  They lose years of hard work, security, and goals.  And this cruel 60-day countdown will continue to destroy lives unless the system is changed.
