The actors who will star in the huge MCU event film were confirmed by a line-up of director's chairs with their names on the back during Marvel Studios' long (some may say agonizingly long) Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal earlier today.  A few big characters, including as Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), and the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), were conspicuously absent from the cast, but there were also some surprises (we doubt anyone was anticipating that many X-Men).

Although we learned earlier tonight that more names will be revealed eventually, it's difficult to avoid the impression that one specific omission validated a well-known fan hypothesis about a particular Thunderbolts* character.

Here are some potential spoilers.

Thus, it appears that Taskmaster is unquestionably a bad idea.

In teasers for the film, Olga Kurylenko's villain-turned-hero didn't play as big a role as her teammates, and the most recent Super Bowl trailer made it quite evident that the Black Widow villain would not be showing up in several important moments.

The most straightforward explanation for this is that Antonia Dreykov will be eliminated before the last act.

Apart from Taskmaster, all other Thunderbolts* characters—including Lewis Pullman's "Bob"—are scheduled to return for Doomsday, which would appear to leave little room for many other options. However, why spoil a major character's death in this way, especially if so many fans had anticipated it?  To divert attention, couldn't Marvel have simply included Kurylenko's name?

Taskmaster's death in Thunderbolts* is certainly uncertain, but it's difficult to come up with another reason why she wouldn't be mentioned.  Perhaps Marvel wanted to tease fans by keeping her for the next major cast reveal.
