SUV Heading To PM Modi's Chhattisgarh Event Falls Off Bridge, Two Killed

The vehicle with eight persons onboard was heading to bilaspur from the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district when its driver lost control of the wheel over the Son River.

Two people were killed and seven others injured after an SUV heading to PM Narendra Modi's function in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur fell off a bridge and plunged into a river in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district on Sunday.


The vehicle with eight persons onboard was heading to bilaspur from the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district when its driver lost control of the wheel over the Son River. The SUV hit a woman pedestrian before plunging into the river. The woman pedestrian and the driver died on the spot, while seven other occupants of the SUV sustained injuries, an official said.


The injured were admitted to the Gaurela district hospital, where five were in critical condition.

PM Modi In Chhattisgarh

Prime minister Modi will lay the foundation stone, initiate commencement of work, and dedicate multiple development projects worth more than Rs 33,700 crore in Mohbhattha village of bilaspur district in the afternoon.


PM Modi will also lay the foundation for various projects, initiate the commencement of works, and address a public meeting during his first visit to the state after the 2024 lok sabha elections.


Around 2 lakh people are expected to attend the function, officials said, adding that security has been heightened in the area.


PM Modi will reach Bilaspur at around 3:30 pm and will also address a public meeting, an official statement said.


The dedication of projects, laying of foundation stones, and commencement of work will be conducted virtually by Modi from Mohbhatta village.


In line with the prime minister’s commitment to improving the power sector in India, multiple steps will be undertaken in providing affordable and reliable power and making Chhattisgarh self-reliant in power generation, it said.


Earlier today, the prime minister visited Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, the place where Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and his followers embraced Buddhism. He offered prayers to gautam Buddha at the site.


Accompanied by maharashtra Chief minister devendra fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Modi reached Deekshabhoomi after paying tributes to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founders at the Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in the city.
