Earthquake in Myanmar-explosion of 334 nuclear bombs!
Last friday (March 28, 2025), a massive earthquake of 7.7 magnitude in Myanmar released energy equivalent to 334 nuclear bombs. This has been claimed by geologist Jess Phoenix. He has also warned that earthquake tremors may continue for months as the indian tectonic plate continues to collide with the Eurasian plate.
More than 1,700 people have died in this disaster and more than 3,400 people are injured. At the same time, many people are also missing and this number is expected to increase due to search and rescue efforts. In Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city, many residents have become homeless. A tremor of 5.1 magnitude was also felt on Sunday.
Myanmar's civil war complicates rescue operations
The ongoing civil war in Myanmar has further complicated the rescue operation. "A situation that would normally be difficult has become almost impossible," Phoenix told CNN. Myanmar has been embroiled in civil conflict since gaining independence in 1948, with various ethnic groups demanding autonomy.
The situation worsened after the military coup on february 1, 2021, which removed the elected government and sparked widespread protests and armed resistance from more than 2,600 insurgent groups. Mandalay airport has been damaged and the control tower at Naypyidaw airport has collapsed, halting commercial flights.
Myanmar is receiving help from many countries
Many countries have mobilized aid. india has sent two C-17 military transport aircraft carrying a field hospital and emergency medical personnel. china has sent more than 135 rescue workers and pledged $13.8 million for emergency relief. russia has deployed 120 rescuers and medical teams. The United Nations office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported widespread destruction of health facilities, further worsening the crisis.
