The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that slammed central Myanmar on friday caused the collapse of a 33-story high-rise structure that was still under construction in bangkok, Thailand. An expert panel has been granted seven days to identify the cause of the collapse, and Thailand's Deputy prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul has requested an urgent probe. But why is the collapse of this structure being scrutinized?

No other projects experienced the same level of devastation, even though Bangkok's skyline was crowded with high-rise structures that were still under construction.  Officials and experts are increasingly doubting the high-rise building's structural soundness.  The construction was done by a Chinese company.

Bangkok was rocked by tremors from the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that was centered in Myanmar at 1:20 pm (0620 GMT).
