The Hindu calendar, which is extensively utilized in India, Nepal, and other places where Hindus predominate, and vikram Samvat are essential to the time computations of ancient India. yogi Bhrithari, an indian saint, yogi, and philosopher who is well-known in sanskrit literature, was the founder of this important calendar.

King Vikramaditya's older brother, yogi Bhrithari, was a highly esteemed individual who was well-known for his intense yoga and meditation techniques. He wrote a number of significant books on meditation, yoga, and ethics.  He made significant contributions to the scientific development of the vikram Samvat calendar.

Because of his wife Pingla's (or Anangsena's) adultery, Bhrithari's life took a drastic turn.  He was a king of ujjain at first, lived a lavish lifestyle, and had numerous wives.  When he learned that his chief queen was having an affair with another man, he was saddened because he was deeply in love with her.

Bhrithari received an amar phal, a fruit of immortality, from a saint, which exposed the treason.  This fruit was given to Pingla by Bhrithari, but she gave it to her lover, a horseback rider.  Another woman ultimately gave the fruit back to Bhrithari out of admiration after receiving it from the horse rider.

Bhrithari became quite reflective after learning of his wife's adultery and the pointlessness of worldly love.  He was so moved by this experience that he gave up his empire, installed his brother vikramaditya as the new ruler, and adopted a sanyaas lifestyle.

After that, he dedicated his life to yoga and spiritual pursuits, becoming into a renowned yogi and philosopher.  His piece 'Vairagya Shatak' demonstrates his tremendous metamorphosis.  The three Shataks that Bhrithari is renowned for are Vairaagyashatak, Nitishhatak, and Shringarshatak.

Being a skilled mathematician, Bhrithari used his skills to create the Hindu Panchang, a calendar that is still utilized nationwide for auspicious occasions and religious Hindu activities.

Through painstaking astronomical computations and cosmic observations, he was able to ascertain the locations of numerous planets as well as the motion of the Earth and Moon. He ensured the correctness of the vikram Samvat by adjusting the lunar and solar years and analyzing weather fluctuations.

King vikramaditya is also linked to the vikram Samvat calendar, which is thought to have been created during his rule in remembrance of Bhrithari.  According to legend, vikramaditya was motivated to begin this calendar by his brother's efforts.

Bhrithari meticulously created the Hindu calendar by researching astronomical computations, examining planets and constellations, and tracking seasonal variations.  Vikram Samvat is a dependable calendar because of its work, which resulted in the development of a system that precisely corrected the lunar and solar years.

Vikram Samvat became a benchmark for calculating important Hindu festivals and religious rites as it grew in acceptance and popularity throughout India.
