The 18th season of the indian Premier League has been underway for almost ten days, and it has not yet produced the anticipated level of momentum.  Only one of the twelve games that have been played so far has proven to be interesting; the others have all been called dull cliches. The only match that had a sense of suspense and went to the last ball was the one between delhi and Lucknow. The other eleven games in the tournament have been sluggish and lopsided, but this is possibly the best one so far.

Even the well-publicized conflicts between chennai and Bengaluru and mumbai and chennai have turned out to be damp squibs.  The IPL is typically characterized by high levels of intensity and close games from the very beginning of the competition.  However, given how dull and uninteresting this season has started, the situation this year is actually the exact opposite.

There is a pressing need for the IPL to revive the exhilarating action of the past as only one match has turned out to be a final ball thriller and the others have been dull contests.  Reviving the league's momentum will require a high-profile matchup and a thrilling finale from one of the best teams in the tournament, such as Bengaluru, chennai, or Mumbai.  This year's IPL lacks its signature features of heavy-duty run chases and last-over entertaining.

The urge will only increase and more conversations will be sparked when this intense cricket action comes to the league. In terms of intensity and last-over thrills, this is literally the worst IPL start ever, if we use the first 12 games as a point of comparison.
