The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested sridevi Rudagi, a preschool teacher from Bengaluru, and her two coworkers, Ganesh Kale and Sagar, for extorting money from the father of a five-year-old daughter.

The three allegedly threatened to reveal graphic private recordings and images unless their demands were granted, and the case developed into a troubling example of blackmail and manipulation. In 2023, the victim, identified as rahul, a Kalasipalya businessman, enrolled his daughter in Rudagi's preschool. rahul even went so far as to get a separate SIM card and phone for private communication with Rudagi, as their connection gradually evolved into one that seemed innocent. A pattern of exploitation ensued, with Rudagi reportedly extorting rahul out of Rs 4 lakh.

The teacher intensified her demands in january 2024, demanding Rs 15 lakh and a live-in arrangement.  Rudagi visited Rahul's house when his family was away and stole an extra Rs 50,000, strengthening her control over him.  However, the harassment escalated to a new and horrifying level when Rahul's business losses made him think about moving to Gujarat. When rahul went to the preschool in march 2024 to pick up his daughter's transfer certificate, Ganesh and Sagar confronted him. Rudagi and the two men threatened to make private images and videos public unless he paid Rs 20 lakh.

Rahul first paid Rs 1.9 lakh out of concern for his family's welfare and reputation. However, the threats persisted, and on march 17, Rudagi sought the whole sum, dividing it into three parts: Rs 8 lakh for herself, Rs 1 lakh for Sagar and Ganesh, and Rs 5 lakh for a purported former ACP assistant commissioner. rahul sought assistance from the police since he could no longer stand the extortion.

Rudagi, Ganesh, and Sagar were arrested by the police as soon as possible.  Further investigation showed that Rudagi had tried to coerce rahul into complying by fabricating ties to a previous ACP from the Malleswaram subdivision.  The police did clarify, though, that the ACP was not involved in the case. The inquiry is still underway, and the three suspects have been placed under judicial detention on remand.
