The Pakistani army breached the ceasefire agreement between the two countries on tuesday by invading the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing four to five infiltrators in retaliatory firing, according to sources. According to the army, the infiltration attempt in the Poonch district's krishna Ghati area was successfully thwarted.

The indian army retaliated tuesday when Pakistani soldiers and infiltrators began fire.  According to sources, the Pakistani side sustained significant losses.

The army has acknowledged Pakistan's violation of the ceasefire for the first time in recent months.  Earlier in february of this year, similar cross-firing occurrences were observed in the krishna Ghati sector.

According to the indian army, neither lives nor property were lost on its side.  The indian army is still fully present in the krishna Ghati region, and the gunfire persisted throughout the day in sporadic intervals.

"The pakistan Army's incursion across the Line of Control resulted in a mine explosion in the krishna Ghati region on april 1.  The Pakistani army then violated the truce and opened fire without cause.  Our troops' regulated and calibrated response was effective.  According to a defense spokeswoman, "the situation is under control and being closely monitored."
