With its massive set pieces, well-choreographed action sequences, and less scares, this sequel appears to be a full-fledged action film, in contrast to the previous film's lighthearted, gruesome comedy. Accepting the absurdity of this franchise's idea may be a wise choice or a major turn-off for M3GAN fans. It looks like a lot of fun, but we'll have to wait and see. As the sequel's lead puts it, "Hold on to your vaginas!"
Gemma (Allison Williams), the designer of M3GAN, an artificial intelligence marvel, has become a well-known author and supporter of government regulation of A.I. two years after the machine went rogue and went on a violent (and meticulously planned) rampage before being destroyed. In the meantime, 14-year-old Gemma's niece Cady (played by Violet McGraw) has grown into a teenager and is defying her overly strict regulations.
They are unaware that a strong defense contractor has stolen and abused the underlying technology for M3GAN to produce a military-grade weapon called Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. However, Amelia's interest in following human commands significantly declines as her self-awareness grows or in retaining them.
