Vinay Somaiah, a 36-year-old man from the Gonimaruru village of Somwarpet, tragically committed suicide in Bengaluru after he allegedly endured constant ridicule on social media. He was among the administrators of a whatsapp group where a contentious post was circulated, which resulted in him and others being sued.

Case Background
Vinay served as the group administrator for the whatsapp group "Kodagu Problems."  A post from january included a photo of congress politician A S Ponnanna and a picture of a badly kept restroom on Madikeri's Moornadu Road.  Notably, Ponnanna has also worked for chief minister Siddaramaiah as his legal advisor.  Congress leaders filed a police report as a result of the uproar this post caused.

A case was filed against Vinay and two group administrators, as well as the person who posted the post, in response to the complaint. The accused obtained anticipatory bail after the police filed charges five days ago.

Harassment and Public Sharing
Vinay allegedly faced significant internet harassment even after obtaining bail.  There was a lot of societal pressure as a result of his pictures being extensively shared in different social media groups along with disparaging comments.  According to reports, he had mental turmoil as a result of this public humiliation, which also forced him to distance himself from friends and family.

Final Message and Suicide
Vinay shared his agony in a farewell message in the whatsapp group the morning before he passed away.  In his letter, he expressed his desire to maintain harmony in Kodagu and stop erroneous accusations against innocent people.  Additionally, he denounced the practice of harassment on social media and public slander.

Vinay was discovered dead at his Bengaluru home shortly after.  He allegedly listed the people who were causing him distress in his suicide note and asked that they be prosecuted.  He added that he hoped the same thing wouldn't happen to anyone else in Kodagu.

Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding Vinay's death after taking note of his claims.  A discussion concerning cyber harassment and legal accountability in social media instances has been spurred by the incident.
