Donald trump, the president of the united states, is shocking people with his decisions.  He recently made the decision to close the office of the Citizenship and Immigration services (CIS) Ombudsman's office, one of three significant monitoring organizations.

Immigration lawyers said the trump administration's decision has shocked the indian community, particularly those who are studying on F-1 visas and working in the united states on H-1B visas. The Ombudsman's agency used to be a great resource for these people, but now that the agency is closing, no one will be available to assist them.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) claims that dismantling watchdog organizations would enable the trump administration to act without inquiry.

Notably, the CIS Ombudsman's office used to help clients with difficulties, including incorrect application rejections, document errors, and postal concerns.  The office helped around 30,000 applications in 2024. The Ombudsman's office used to assist holders of F-1 and H-1B visas in resolving issues that USCIS was facing.

According to AILA senior director Sharwari Dalal-Dheni, the CIS Ombudsman's office helped 30,000 applicants last year, resolving problems like application rejections, document errors, and postal delays.  According to immigration lawyer Rajiv S. Khanna, holders of F-1 and H-1B visas often turned to the Ombudsman for assistance when they encountered issues with USCIS that threatened their job and legal status.

According to Rajiv, the CIS Ombudsman receives a lot of complaints about processing delays, especially when it comes to H-1B visa extensions.  He cited an instance in which an Ombudsman intervention resulted in a two-week resolution after an 11-month delay that threatened the engineer's job and residence.  Within two weeks, however, his visa was renewed after the Ombudsman stepped in.
