This activity has profound religious significance. According to religious doctrine, Hanuman Ji lived his entire life as a celibate. Although he had been married, he had not married for the sake of marital bliss. He actually got married to learn specific things that only married people could learn. Religious legend states that five of the nine principal Vidyas were taught to Hanuman ji by his Guru surya Dev. He informed him, however, that only a married person could achieve this Vidya, in contrast to the other four.

Hanuman ji was in a difficult situation because he was a celibate.  For this reason, he prepared to get married and followed his guru's instructions. Choosing the right girl was the other task.  This was resolved by surya Dev, who suggested that Hanuman ji marry his lovely daughter Suvarchala.

Following his acceptance of this proposal, Hanuman ji and Suvarchala were married.  Being a wonderful ascetic, Suvarchala became deeply involved in penance as soon as she was married.  Hanuman ji began studying the four sciences after getting married and eventually completed them all.  Like this, Hanuman ji got married and his chastity was also not disturbed. Throughout his life, Hanuman ji maintained celibacy and treated all women as mothers.

A woman does not salute or touch a man's feet when she feels a maternal bond with him.  For this reason, women avoid touching Hanuman ji's idol.  But they can light a lamp and worship the idol. women can even recite Hanuman Chalisa and can also offer prasad to Hanuman ji.
