Despite its dismal opening performances, john Abraham's film The Diplomat has managed to carve out a respectable niche for itself at the box office.  The shivam Nair-directed movie was destined to fail because of the lack of excitement generated by its pre-release promotion.  However, viewer support and word-of-mouth have kept it viable and performing unexpectedly well.  With Rs 19.50 crore in Week One and Rs 9.00 crore in Week Two, the movie's box office receipts have been consistent.  The sum would increase by Rs 5.50 crore in Week Three, reaching Rs 34.00 crore.

Even though these sums barely equal to a blockbuster, they are nevertheless remarkable performances by what was first dismissed as a failure.  Sikandar's lackluster performance, which failed to draw large audiences, may have contributed to The Diplomat's exhibition spike on its fourth Friday.

Since the latter failed to find any buyers, the exhibitors shifted their focus to john Abraham's thriller, increasing the number of screens and giving it a chance to earn Rs 40 crore by the conclusion of its run.  The Diplomat has not been a box office success, but its strong showing and positive reviews have prevented it from going down in history.  This unanticipated shot in the arm serves as an example of how, even under difficult situations, reception may alter a film's trajectory.
