Maharashtra: 'The nature of the relationship between dhananjay Munde and Karuna is married', the court said - she is entitled to get relief
Sessions Judge Sheikh Akbar Sheikh Jafar said in the verdict given on saturday that the relationship between Karuna and dhananjay Munde is similar to marriage because Karuna has given birth to two children. The court said that this relationship is not possible without living together in a shared house. Therefore, this relationship is far beyond just friendship or any temporary relationship.
Former maharashtra minister and ncp leader dhananjay Munde's relationship with Karuna Munde is like marriage and on this basis, Karuna is entitled to get relief under the Domestic Violence Act. While giving this verdict, the mumbai Sessions court upheld the interim maintenance order against him.
Karuna Munde had filed a case of domestic violence against dhananjay Munde in 2020. After this, the Bandra Magistrate court ordered on february 4 under interim relief that Dhananjay Munde will have to pay Rs 1,25,000 to Karuna and Rs 75,000 to the daughter every month. Dhananjay Munde had appealed against this order in the sessions court, which has now been rejected.
Dhananjay Munde claimed in the court that Karuna is neither his wife nor were they in a live-in relationship. His lawyer also said that he is not entitled to any relief. Talking about the court's rejection of the ncp leader's claim, after seeing two documents, the will, and the acceptance letter, the court accepted that the relationship between Karuna and dhananjay was not only physical but like a marriage. The court made it clear that in this case it is not necessary to decide whether they are legally husband and wife or not, but it is only necessary to see whether their relationship was 'like a marriage' or not.
Dhananjay Munde's lawyer argued that Karuna has her income. But the court said that the real issue is whether her income is enough to live the same lifestyle as a politician like Dhananjay. The court also held that—even if Karuna earns some money—she and her children are entitled to the same standard of living as dhananjay Munde.
The sessions court said that the interim maintenance decided by the magistrate is fair and does not require any change. Therefore, dhananjay Munde's appeal is dismissed.
