Tahawwur Rana, a key conspirator in the 26/11 mumbai attacks, was extradited, which was a "big step" toward ensuring justice for the terror attack victims. When US State Secretary Marco Rubio mentioned that Rana had been successfully turned over from American authorities to India's National Investigation Agency (NIA), jaishankar reacted.

"Appreciate the counter-terrorism cooperation between our two countries. This is indeed a big step in ensuring justice for the victims of 26/11 attacks," the MEA said in a post on X.

Rubio had taken to X to say that the day that india and the united states have long waited for, to bring justice for the victims of the 26/11 attacks, has finally come with the extradition of Rana.

In a post on X, Rubio said, "We extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to india to face charges for his role in the horrific 2008 mumbai terrorist attacks. Together with india, we've long sought justice for the 166 people, including 6 Americans, who lost their lives in these attacks. I'm glad that day has come."

The 26/11 terror acts stunned the world, the State Department said Thursday, adding that Washington backed India's efforts to hold those responsible accountable.

"On april 9, the united states had extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to india to face justice for his role in planning the horrific 2008 mumbai terrorist attack," stated Tammy Bruce, a spokesman for the US State Department.

"The united states has long supported India's efforts to ensure those responsible for these attacks are brought to justice, and as President trump has said, the united states and india will continue to work together to combat the global scourge of terrorism," she stated.

Bruce added that the US is "very proud of that dynamic" and india owns Rana. She recalled that the assaults sent shockwaves around the world, killing 166 people, including six Americans.

"I encourage you to look them up and to find out exactly how horrible this was in the importance of this situation today," added Bruce.

The US has extradited Rana, a convicted terrorist and Pakistani-Canadian national, to stand prosecution in india on ten criminal charges stemming from his alleged involvement in the 26/11 attacks, a US Department of Justice official had earlier informed news agency PTI.

"Rana's extradition is a critical step toward seeking justice for the six Americans and scores of other victims who were killed in the heinous attacks," the spokesperson continued.

The successful extradition of Rana was verified by India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday. He has been placed in the agency's custody for eighteen days by a delhi court, and the interrogation process will begin on Friday.
