The 2025 indian Premier League (IPL) season has been difficult for the chennai Super Kings (CSK), with disappointing results and major setbacks. CSK's campaign has been plagued by a string of losses, despite a strong start against the mumbai Indians. As a result, they currently sit ninth out of ten teams.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain, suffered a hairline fracture in his elbow during a game against the rajasthan Royals, which dealt a devastating blow to the club.  Due to this injury, he was forced to miss the season, and ms dhoni took over as captain. With numerous top-order collapses, CSK's batting lineup has struggled, especially during powerplays.  Their encounter against the delhi Capitals served as an example of this problem, as they lost by 25 runs after early wickets made it difficult for them to chase a 184-run goal.

In a recent match against the kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the team's performance drastically declined.  CSK managed just 103 in 20 overs, their lowest-ever IPL total at home.  The loss against KKR was their third straight home loss of the season and their fifth overall. The season is slipping away from MS Dhoni's team, therefore, they will need to put themselves back together quickly.  They are well behind in the playoff calculations following just one victory in six games.

CSK Playoff qualification Scenario: How can chennai Super Kings advance to the Playoffs?
After nearly half of the group stage matchups, the chennai Super Kings have only won one game, therefore, they still have work to do in the remaining eight group games.

In general, a club needs about eight wins to make it to the playoffs, although seven can occasionally work when the Net Run Rate becomes a significant consideration. In addition to being second in the rankings right now, the chennai Super Kings have a dismal NRR. The NRR is approaching -2 after being thrashed by the kolkata Knight Riders, which is extremely concerning.

Can CSK Qualify for Playoffs?
Theoretically, they can. To make it to the playoffs, ms dhoni and his team will need to win at least six or seven of their remaining eight games. With the way the season is going, the Super Kings will probably be done if they win fewer than six games.

Will CSK Make It to the Top Two Teams?

The IPL gives the top two teams from the group stages a big boost, giving them a second chance at the Final.  For CSK, finishing in the top two seems like a pipe dream right now, but they should be in the running for those coveted slots if they can win eight of their last eight games.
