Indian Navy is going to do war exercise with these countries...
For the first time, indian Navy is going to do joint maritime war exercise with ten African countries to counter the growing influence of China in African countries connected to the indian Ocean. The indian Navy is going to jointly host this exercise named 'Aikeyme' with tanzania for six days (13-18 April) from Sunday. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi have left for Dar-es-Salaam, the capital of tanzania, to participate in the opening ceremony of the exercise.
Unity with African countries through 'Aikeyme' exercise
Indian Navy is using Aikeyme i.e. Africa India's Maritime Engagement (AIKEYME) for maritime security with African countries. The sanskrit word Aikeyme means unity. Apart from the navies of india and tanzania, the navies of Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, seychelles and south africa will participate in the exercise. The special thing is that china has established its first foreign naval base in Djibouti. After America, china is the second country whose navy has built its base in Djibouti.
Indian Navy's warships INS Chennai (Destroyer) and INS kesari (Landing Ship Tank) have reached Dar es Salaam to participate in the AKMI exercise. The first edition of AKMI includes those countries of West Africa whose coasts are adjacent to the indian Ocean. In the next editions of this exercise, which is held once in two years, an attempt will be made to include the navies of countries from the entire African continent.
The indian Ocean adjacent to Africa is plagued by piracy and smuggling
The indian Ocean region adjacent to Africa has been plagued by piracy. In such a situation, sea-trade between Asia, Africa and Europe is disrupted. Along with this, activities like smuggling of drugs and weapons and illegal fishing are also seen. During the Akemi exercise, the harbor phase will include tabletop and command post exercises on piracy and information sharing. There will also be training on seamanship and visit board search and seizure (VBSS).
The sea phase includes seamanship evolution, search and rescue, VBSS, small arms firing and helicopter operations. Admiral Tripathi's visit is in line with India's strengthening strategic relations in the indian Ocean region and PM Modi's vision for the Global South. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi's visit to tanzania is an important step to strengthen bilateral relations between india and tanzania and promote regional security.
