The highly classified Area 51 military station has sparked a new wave of online conspiracy theories about aliens after a mystery building was seen on google Earth. Area 51, a top-secret US air Force site spanning 2.3 million acres deep in the Nevada desert, has long been linked to covert military experimentation and conjecture concerning alien activity.

Astute google Earth users recognized the most recent find, a triangular tower that casts a lengthy shadow, and they shared it widely on the internet. Curiousity has been stoked by the fact that the structure, which was discovered in coordinates 37°14'46.5"N 115°49'24.0"W, has remarkably remained on the platform.

Social media users immediately recognized the discovery's sci-fi elements.  "Obviously alien technology," one commenter said.  When the Earth is finished, it emerges.  Someone else added, "It's where the aliens test their various white powders."

The facebook community also contributed their thoughts and jokes.  According to one user, "A Monolith just like in 2001 A Space Odyssey,"  Others made wild guesses regarding the tower's function, such as "UFO charging dock" and "Marker for aliens it is safe to land here."

The discovery was not taken seriously by everyone. Humor was used by some social media users, who referred to it as "a new version of Jenga" and even called it the "Toblerone trade center."

Area 51
Conspiracy theorists and extraterrestrial hunters have long been fascinated with Area 51, particularly in the wake of the historic 1947 Roswell, New Mexico, incident. The secluded location became a symbol of government secrets and unearthly encounters after that purported UFO crash.

Intriguingly, Brazilian mystic Athos Salomé, known as the "living Nostradamus," had previously delivered a terrifying prophecy about the location.  He said: "There is a tunnel below ground level in the Area, leading to a three-dimensional portal."

"People could be transported between space/time dimensions through this portal," he continued. Everyone wants to use the tunnel that leads to the opposite location in order to play god or gods.
