Georgia passes resolution condemning Hinduphobia
Notably, georgia was the first state in the US to enact a resolution denouncing anti-Hindu bigotry and Hinduphobia in 2023. The georgia Assembly recognized hinduism as "one of the world's largest and oldest religions with over 1.2 billion adherents in over 100 countries and an array of diverse traditions and belief systems with values of acceptance, mutual respect, and peace" in april 2023, when it passed a resolution against Hinduphobia. Representatives Lauren McDonald and Todd Jones introduced the resolution from Forsyth County, which is in the Atlanta suburbs and is home to one of Georgia's largest Hindu and Indian-American diaspora communities. They noted that the American-Hindu community has made significant contributions to a variety of industries, including manufacturing, energy, academia, science and engineering, information technology, hospitality, finance, and medicine.
