Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the conspirator behind the 26/11 mumbai attacks, was questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for the second day in a row to look into a wider conspiracy surrounding the 2008 coordinated strikes.

According to news agency PTI, which cited anonymous sources, Tahawwur Rana is being held in a highly protected cell within the NIA's head office at the CGO complex in New delhi, where he is constantly watched over by security guards.

Tahawwur Rana is being treated "as any other arrested person with no special treatment," an official informed HT.  In his cell at the agency headquarters, he is seen performing Namaz five times a day and has been given a copy of the Quran upon his request.

"We gave him a copy of the Quran when he asked for one.  An officer who described Rana as a "religious man" claimed to have witnessed him offering Namaz five times in his cell.

In addition to the Quran, Rana requested a pen and paper, which have been given to him; nevertheless, he is being monitored to make sure he doesn't hurt himself with the pen.  The officer observed, "He has not made any other demands beyond that."

Following court orders, Rana is permitted to see an attorney from the delhi Legal services Authority (DLSA) every other day and is required to get a medical assessment every 48 hours.  Another officer reaffirmed, "All procedures are being followed, like for other arrested individuals." Rana was brought to the NIA headquarters early friday morning after a delhi court granted 18-day custody to the probe agency, following his extradition from the US.

Tahawwur Rana's Grilling Continues
A group of NIA officials is questioning Tahawwur Rana in an attempt to determine his precise involvement in the 26/11 mumbai terror strikes that rocked the nation more than 16 years ago.

Investigators are questioning him on several leads, including dozens of phone conversations between him and David Coleman Headley, also known as Daood Gilani, the American national who is presently spending time in a US prison for his involvement in the conspiracy, according to unnamed sources who spoke to PTI.

In addition, Rana is being questioned about individuals he interacted with before the assaults, particularly a crucial contact in dubai who, officials believe, might have known about the mumbai attack plan.

The 64-year-old Canadian businessman, who is originally from Pakistan, is also being investigated for possible ties to the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which carried out the attacks, and Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI.

Officials are anticipating that Rana's responses could provide new information about the plot, particularly regarding his travels through parts of north and south india in the days leading up to the attack.
