The trump administration has announced that all immigrants in the US must always carry their identification credentials, marking a significant policy change.

Among the immigrants are workers, students, and lawful residents. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that it will move forward with a plan forcing undocumented immigrants in the nation to register with the government, following a court ruling that upheld a Trump-era regulation.

"This documentation must always be carried by all non-citizens who are 18 years of age or older. "This administration has instructed DHS to prioritize enforcement; noncompliance will not be tolerated," the DHS statement read. The regulation becomes operative on Friday, april 11. There have been other developments since President Trump's executive order, "Protecting the American people Against Invasion," issued on january 20th, which required the Alien Registration Act to be enforced.

The New Rules?
The trump administration's new regulations will affect undocumented or illegal immigrants, according to many media sources.  All non-citizens who are older than 14 and stay in the united states for 30 days or longer are required to register by completing Form G-325R. Within a month of turning fourteen, immigrant children must also renew their registration and provide their fingerprints.

Additionally, individuals must register with the government if they are traveling to the united states after april 11. Within 30 days after their arrival, they ought to finish the registration process. A USD 5,000 charge will be imposed on those who fail to report within 10 days after moving their address.

Rules For H1-B Visa, Green Card Holders
Those who are already lawfully here, such as those with a student, work, or tourist visa, a green card, employment papers, a border crossing card, or an I-94 admittance record, will not be affected by US immigration laws. These people are regarded as pre-registered.

Indian nationals who currently possess a valid US visa or Green Card are not required to register.  They must, however, always have their identity with them and show it to authorities when asked.

The fact that there are around 5.4 million indians in America is significant.  About 2.20 lakh indians were living lawfully as of 2022, according to DHS data. However, according to the Times of India, the Migration Policy Institute assesses it at 3.75 lakh, while the Pew Research Center calculates it at 7 lakh.
