Once a cradle of intelligence and culture, West bengal has devolved into a justice graveyard under mamata Banerjee's trinamool congress (TMC).

The TMC's involvement in a horrifying campaign of targeted violence was exposed by the ongoing tragedies in Samserganj and Murshidabad, where Hindu families are reportedly fleeing their homes, having their stores plundered, and having their lives destroyed by Islamist mobs. Under the guise of "Maa, Mati, Manush," Mamata's administration has devolved into a nightmare of appeasement politics that sacrifices Hindus to gain more votes. This is a willful capitulation to chaos, not governance.

At least three people have died as a result of the violence in Suti, Samserganj, and Dhuliyan, Murshidabad, which was triggered by protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act. One of the victims, a Hindu father and son named Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das, were savagely cut to death in Jafrabad.

More than 30 businesses in locations like Dakbangla More and Kanchantala were targeted by crowds who set fire to betel fields, vandalized Hindu-owned stores, and set cars on fire.  According to bjp leader Suvendu Adhikari, more than 400 Hindus were compelled to leave Dhuliyan and take a boat across the ganga to take sanctuary in Par Lalpur in Malda out of fear of "religiously driven bigots." As though creating divisiveness absolves her of the blood on her deeds, Mamata's response is a textbook in evasion: a vague X post calling for "peace" and a brazen refusal to enforce the Waqf Act.

The hypocrisy of the TMC is astounding. Although mamata presents herself as an advocate for tolerance, her silence regarding the targeted attacks, which included the looting of Hindu shops, the desecration of a Radha-Krishna temple, and the destruction of a Durga pandal, speaks loudly.  Her own party isn't exempt either; mla Manirul islam has been heckled and TMC offices have been looted, but she won't publicly denounce the violence or identify its culprits.  As his countrymen run for their lives, TMC mp Yusuf Pathan, who represents Baharampur, posts on instagram about enjoying "good chai"—a hideous demonstration of disinterest that reflects the party's moral decay.

The government of mamata refuses to acknowledge the terrifying image painted by the forced migration and threats of mass violence against Hindu women. In addition to being incompetent, her inaction and Saugata Roy's feeble justification that "people's sentiments are agitated" amount to complicity.

This is nothing new. bengal has been a hotbed of anti-Hindu violence under mamata, from the riots in Beldanga to the outbursts in Mothabari. Trust in the state's ability to protect its own has been damaged by her administration's practice of blaming the Center, ignoring the victims, and shielding the offenders. Bengal's troubled past is brought to mind by the migration from Murshidabad, where Hindus were compelled to leave their own country like refugees. Mamata's supporters may argue that she is upholding "harmony," but allowing mob rule while Hindus are killed is tyranny, not harmony.

Instead of a demagogue who feeds on divisiveness, bengal should have a leader who governs for everyone. The country of Vivekananda has been turned into a battlefield where Hindus live in terror as a result of Mamata's treachery. The residents of Samserganj and Murshidabad are families ripped apart by a government that prioritizes votes above people. They are not just numbers. mamata banerjee and her TMC deserve shame for arranging this catastrophe and for remaining silent while Bengal's soul suffers.
