As part of his ongoing campaign to levy punitive levies to solve US trade difficulties, US President donald trump has stated that he will announce new chip tariffs "over the next week." trump stated, "The tariffs will be in place in the not distant future," alluding to charges on semiconductors that will be imposed in a manner akin to those of steel, aluminum, and cars.

"I'll be announcing it over the next week," he responded when asked what the tariff for chips will be.

The US president had stated the day before that no nation would be "getting off the hook" with regard to tariffs.

Nobody is going to be "off the hook." Particularly not china, which is by far the worst at treating us!"  On Sunday, april 13, trump made a post on his social media account, Truth Social.

"In the next National Security Tariff Investigations, we are looking at semiconductors and the entire electronics supply chain," he stated.

Trump has stated that he will provide "very specific" information on Monday, and Howard Lutnick, his commerce secretary, stated that tariffs on semiconductors will probably be implemented "in a month or two."

A "U-turn"?

Trump made what his detractors called a "U-turn" on april 9 when he declared that all of the nations on his list—aside from China—would receive a 90-day tariff delay.  In reality, he declared that duties on china would be raised by an additional 125%. The white house said the 90-day halt was always part of Trump's plan, despite remarks that the US president suddenly changed course.

"Until it is, it is not a negotiation."

Why did trump keep telling his team that halting tariffs was not part of the plan when he was questioned in the white house if it was, and to force other nations to plead for the deal?

The US president remarked, "A lot of times it's not a negotiation until it is,"
