In order to make any headway in trade negotiations, the white house has said that china must take the next step.

According to President donald trump, china must initiate a trade agreement, but he is open to doing so.

"China has the upper hand.  We must negotiate with China.  We don't need to negotiate with them.  President Trump's statement, read aloud by white house press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday, stated, "China is no different from any other country except that they are much larger."

China is very dependent on the American market, Leavitt continued.  "China wants what we have ... the American consumer, or to put another way, they need our money," she stated.

This shift in position follows China's withdrawal from a significant agreement with the US aerospace behemoth Boeing.  Chinese officials ordered their airlines to stop accepting new Boeing aircraft and to stop purchasing aircraft components and equipment from American firms, according to a Bloomberg report.

In a harsh response, trump wrote on his Truth Social account, "They just reneged on the big Boeing deal, saying that they will 'not take possession' of fully committed to aircraft."

TARIFFS, TENSIONS KEEP GROWING
In recent days, the back-and-forth between the two economic giants has been more intense.  China responded by levying a 125% tariff on US imports on Friday.  This followed President Trump's temporary suspension of additional tariffs on imports from other countries and the imposition of 145% US tariffs on Chinese goods.

As the trade conflict heats up, trump and Chinese President Xi jinping have not backed down.  Following the implementation of new US tariffs, several nations have tried to engage in negotiations with Washington; however, china has remained steadfast and retaliated with its own counter-tariffs instead.

"Once more, the president has stated unequivocally that he is amenable to a deal with China.  However, Leavitt stated that china must reach an agreement with the united states of America.

Trump took aim at beijing again on Tuesday, claiming in a post on Truth Social that china had not fulfilled its obligations under a prior trade deal.  In his first term, he appeared to be alluding to a deal that constituted a pact in the two sides' intensifying trade war.
