Just two days before their visit to Israel and Palestinian territories, 27 French MPs and local leaders were told that their visas had been cancelled. According to news agency AFP, the group included leaders of France's leftist, environmentalist and communist parties. They said that their aim was to promote international cooperation and peace through this visit.
The French Consulate had called them for an official visit
The French Consulate in Jerusalem had called these MPs for a five-day official visit, but Israel's Interior Ministry cancelled their visas under a special law. This law allows the government to prevent people from entering the country who are considered a threat to national security.
Visas of these people were cancelled
Those whose visas were cancelled by israel included National assembly deputies such as Francois Ruffin, Alexis Corbier, Julie Ozen, Communist deputy Soumya Borouha and senator Marianne Margret. Apart from this, there were also mayors and other local officials. These MPs and officials issued a joint statement, in which they described this move as collective punishment and a major rift in diplomatic relations.
Made this request to French President Macron
They requested French President Macron to respond and ensure that Israel changes its decision. The MPs also said that their political parties have long supported the Palestinian state, as Macron did recently. They also said that france could recognize the Palestinian state at the international summit to be held in June. Earlier this month, israel deported two british MPs at Tel Aviv airport.
