The trend of eating paneer has increased among Indians. But it is about this that a big controversy has arisen. An allegation has been made that food is being prepared and sold to the public in various parts of the country using adulterated paneer. Two days ago, food safety officials in lucknow seized and destroyed 4810 kilograms of adulterated paneer. Officials say that laboratory tests revealed that this paneer is unfit for human consumption. The test revealed that this paneer is made from skimmed milk powder instead of milk and that additional oil and some fatty ingredients have been added to it.
This problem has now become a big problem all over India. Food safety officials in various parts of the country are seizing and testing paneer. Meanwhile, Union Food and Consumer Affairs minister Prahlad Joshi has asked Union health minister J. P. Nadda to take action in this matter. He has stressed that various restaurants and outlets are selling fake and adulterated paneer and action should be taken against it. This synthetic paneer, which looks like a real paneer made from milk, is made with cheap ingredients and fats.

Real paneer is milk mixed with lemon juice or vinegar and then converted into paneer. Such fake paneer is made with milk powder mixed with fats and oils extracted from vegetables. Officials say that the paneer prepared in this way does not contain any nutrients and warn consumers that it may cause health problems later.

Recently, a news report spread that food was being prepared and served using fake paneer in a restaurant owned by actor Shah Rukh Khan's wife Gauri Khan, causing controversy. Last year, too, an allegation was made that zomato was selling fake paneer. During the one-year period from april 2024 to march 2025, food safety officials seized and tested 702 food items in noida and Greater Noida. Paneer was the most adulterated food item. That is, 83 percent of the paneer did not meet the quality standards set by the Food Safety Department. 40 percent of the paneer was in the category of unfit for human consumption. The central government has now taken this issue seriously.
