According to allegations that surfaced after the tragic attack in pahalgam, security authorities had previously obtained intelligence indicating that a terrorist attack might be carried out at a well-known tourist attraction in South Kashmir.

At least 28 people were killed in the terror attack that targeted Baisaran, a picturesque meadow in the anantnag area close to pahalgam, while numerous others were injured. A senior official acknowledged that two foreign nationals and two locals were among the dead, but he would not provide any other details.

Among those slain was an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer who had traveled to pahalgam with his family.  He lived in the city of Hyderabad. According to sources, intelligence reports suggested a possible assault on popular tourist destinations, with the attackers apparently planning to target non-Kashmiris because of their religious affiliation.  Additionally, the agencies disclosed that the gang responsible for the pahalgam attack had conducted reconnaissance operations in the region before to the tragedy.

Authorities estimate that three to five attackers were involved.  They allegedly used overground ways to sneak guns. They opened fire on gullible tourists in the scenic location, which is referred to as "mini Switzerland" due to its verdant meadows and serene environs.

"Armed terrorists came into the grassland, dubbed 'mini Switzerland', and started firing at tourists milling around eateries, taking pony rides or just picnicking," officials and eyewitnesses claimed.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will take over the investigation into the incident.  Amit Shah, the Union home Minister, has already reached out to kashmir to evaluate the current state of security.
