Manoj Kumar, Chairman, Khadi and village industries Commission (KVIC) said that a national level exhibition was organized during the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj from january 14 to february 27, 2025, in which a historic sale of Khadi products worth Rs 12.02 crore was recorded.

98 stalls of Khadi products in the exhibition

Manoj Kumar said that 98 stalls of Khadi products and 54 village industry stalls were set up in the exhibition. Khadi products worth Rs 9.76 crore were sold in these, while rural industry products worth Rs 2.26 crore were sold. In order to further strengthen the 'New Khadi for New India' campaign to promote Khadi, Manoj Kumar distributed 2,050 bee boxes, honey colonies and toolkits to 205 beekeepers from six states through video conference from KVIC's Rajghat office in Delhi.

KVIC's 'Honey Mission'

While addressing the program, Chairman Kumar said that in line with prime minister Narendra Modi's vision of spreading 'sweet revolution' in villages, 'Honey Mission' has been started to distribute bee colonies and bee boxes to beekeepers. KVIC launched 'Honey Mission' in 2017, under which more than 20,000 beneficiaries have received two lakh bee boxes and bee colonies so far. He further said that while discussing the benefits of beekeeping in the 75th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat', the prime minister had emphasized that apart from honey, beeswax is also a major source of income. According to a press release issued by the MSME Ministry, there is a huge demand for beeswax in making medicines, food items, clothes and cosmetic products, so more and more farmers should also get involved in beekeeping. This will also increase their income, bring sweetness in life and the country will become self-sufficient in honey production.

The country's Khadi sector is moving forward

In his address, the Chairman of KVIC talked about the achievements of the Khadi sector in the last 10 years and said that the sale of Khadi and village industries products has increased five times, from Rs 31,000 crore to Rs 1,55,000 crore. The sale of Khadi garments alone has increased six times, from Rs 1,081 crore to Rs 6,496 crore, while 10.17 lakh new jobs were also created in the last financial year. He also said that the income of Khadi artisans has increased by 213 per cent in the last decade, out of which more than 80 per cent jobs have been generated for women.
