Cyber Fraud On OLX: How the fraud happened?


A chandigarh resident had to bear the brunt of losing Rs 40,000 for searching an old motorcycle on the OLX website. The victim had contacted an alleged security force personnel on sunday after an advertisement for selling his old motorcycle was posted on the OLX web. The alleged jawan got 40 thousand rupees transferred from him several times and fled. Now on the complaint of the victim, the police is searching for the fake jawan.

This is how the fake jawan cheated

The fake jawan who uploaded the advertisement of selling bike on OLX had laid the entire fielding. He uploaded an advertisement to sell a 2015 model bike, posing as a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) soldier and also showed his card and mobile number. Pramod Chandra Mathpal, a resident of Mani Majra, chandigarh, contacted him over phone and expressed his desire to buy the bike. He told Pramod his name as Tilak Mohra and described himself as posted in Ambala.

According to Pramod, the alleged jawan asked to send Re 1 to his account. The remaining amount is to be paid when his friend will deliver the motorcycle to me. I thought he was the right man, so I transferred Rs 12,000 to his account. After this he called me and said that army rules do not allow me to take Rs 12,000. After this he asked me to send Rs 15,000. Also said that I will send back your Rs 12,000. I sent him Rs 15,000 and he asked to send Rs 12,000 more. I sent that amount also. In this way a total of Rs 40,000 reached him.
