Is greeshma going to receive parole? Engaging in her preferred pastime to pass time in incarceration.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Greeshma, who is currently serving a death sentence for the Sharon murder case, is sharing her cell with four other inmates. Previously, death row prisoners were kept in isolation.
However, now that such inmates have the option to appeal to the supreme court for sentence reduction, those on death row are placed in regular cells. They will only be moved to solitary confinement after their mercy petition to the President is denied.
All privileges afforded to standard inmates will also apply to death-sentenced individuals, but they will be supervised more closely than other prisoners. Bail or parole will not be granted until the high court reviews the case following the trial court's decision. A two-judge panel in the high court must evaluate the case.
Greeshma's bail was revoked and she was returned to prison after being found guilty in the Sharon murder trial. As a convict, she is now required to participate in work assignments within the jail. She may be assigned to the canteen, or to areas where dolls or handicrafts are produced, or in the sewing workshop, depending on her interests. Jail officials noted that no visitors, including lawyers, came to see her yesterday; only a relative brought her some undergarments. She is required to wear prison attire and spends her time drawing.
Yesterday, greeshma visited the prison pharmacy to obtain medication for body aches. Currently, she has not been assigned any work in jail and has spent most of her time in her cell. Due to ongoing renovation work in the prison, inmates are temporarily housed in only a portion of the cells.
