78-year-old SK Tyagi confessed his crime after 39 years!

In one of the oldest cases going on in the lower courts of delhi, CJM deepak Kumar of Rouse Avenue court pronounced his verdict. The hearing was going on for 5 months in the bank fraud case registered in the year 1986. delhi resident SK Tyagi was made the main accused in this case. This case of bank fraud was going on since 1988. He was accused of forgery, tampering with important documents and embezzling lakhs of rupees by manipulating bank accounts. In this case which lasted for almost four decades, the Rouse Avenue court decided to convict SK Tyagi in january 2025 at the age of 78. Now the Rouse Avenue court of delhi has convicted him.

The court pronounced the sentence 'till rising of court'

The Rouse Avenue court did not give the maximum sentence keeping in mind the age of SK Tyagi who was convicted. The court sentenced SK Tyagi to 'till rising of court'. This sentence means that now he will have to remain in custody till the day's working of the court, which will be the duration of his sentence.

What is the whole case?

Actually, SK Tyagi and other accused were accused of cheating punjab and Sindh bank in 1984-85. They prepared fake documents and valuable documents. They misrepresented the bank accounts by making fake credit entries in the bank accounts and getting the cheques cleared without sufficient funds.

After the investigation of this case was completed, a charge sheet was filed against the accused. Charges were framed against SK Tyagi and others under various sections of the indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly obtaining property), Section 467 (forgery of valuable securities etc.), Section 477A (falsification of accounts) and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy).

The cbi had filed this case in 1986 by combining two separate bank fraud complaints. Two years later, in 1988, a chargesheet was filed against several accused and years later, the tis hazari court of delhi framed charges against them. SK Tyagi was fighting the case since then.

In the year 2019, this case was transferred to the Rouse Avenue court of Delhi. On 29 january 2025, the Rouse Avenue court considered a petition filed by SK Tyagi, in which he expressed his desire to plead guilty. He told the court that he wanted to accept the charges against him. The court explained to him the consequences, but he still expressed his desire to plead guilty. The court accepted his statement, considering it to be given voluntarily.
