Shri Nithyanand Roy, minister of State for home Affairs, has indicated that negotiations are underway to compensate the relatives of the Covid-19 victims for their loss. A Viceroyal Member of Parliament, Shri V.Vijayasai Reddy, had asked the minister in the letter on wednesday if ex-gratia payments from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to the relatives of Covid-19 victims were being considered. In the Gaurav Kumar Bansal v. central government case, the supreme court decided in favour of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on june 30 of this year. To follow supreme court instructions, he said he was in touch with the relevant officials.

It was designated a national catastrophe and state-owned SDRs were allowed for quarantine and containment, sample collection, screening, and needed medical equipment after the World health Organization proclaimed the Covid virus a pandemic. He also added that SDRF funding will be utilised to build up relief camps for migrant workers, provide them with food and housing, and assist migrant workers who were stuck due to lockdowns and other circumstances. For the Covid outbreak, the SDRF has been given 50% of its funding. According to the minister, the central share of SDRF funding was disbursed to the states and union territories in 2019-20 and would grow to Rs 22,262 crore in 2020-21.
