Tripura shares 856 km of border with Bangladesh. But, whenever there was violence in the past by the majority of Muslims in Bangladesh, it did not show much impact except for a few protests.
In 1980, there was violence between Bengalis and tribals in Tripura. It includes both Hindus and Muslims.
The bjp defeated the CPM-led Left government here in the 2018 assembly elections. The 25-year-old Left came to power in the state.
Opposition parties have accused the bjp government of weakening religious harmony in the state since its inception.
Are Muslim communities in the state living in fear?
"No, that is not the case. After the bjp came to power, there was a sense of relief among the Muslims that they would not be harmed. The religious division in the state started because of those who were against Modi, the bjp and the BJP.
Two weeks after the Panisagar violence, the Tripura government arrested two women journalists on charges of posting provocative content.
However, a court in Tripura two days later ordered the release on bail of the two journalists who had gone there to cover religious violence.
"Since when has journalism become a crime?"
"Journalists are doing their duty. They are taking photos and evidence. What is the point of detaining them without any charges? Is this democracy?"
"Democracy is taking full fairness, not political parties. Most people are spreading fake news. Is this democracy? Some magazines, some writers, are always spreading something."
But, the situation seen on the field level is completely different to his arguments.
The fact is that these incidents have disturbed the minds of those in Tripura. It seemed the same to those who witnessed the violence up close, and to those who proudly say that there have never been any sectarian clashes in Tripura in the history of independent India.
