Onam festival Food Dishes and Recipe- onam is a popular festival in Kerala, whatever food items are prepared during this festival is called Bhoj. Only vegetarian food is prepared in Onam. Coconut is used a lot in all the food items made in Kerala. Today we will talk about the banquet made in onam and know what dishes are made in this festival, without which this festival would have been incomplete. Main Food dishes for onam Thaali

Kadla curry

This is a delicious South dish, it is not a simple chana masala but a spicy gravy with coconut flavour. It is usually served with Puttu, Aapam, Dosa and Idiyappam. You need chickpeas to make it. 

Pickle

South indian pickle is a must to serve in sadyas, it is made with many vegetables and different variations are prepared in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, tamil Nadu, telangana etc.

Cumin rice

You can also include cumin rice in onam thali because rice is a dish that is everyone's favourite. That's why people include rice in their food lists in different ways. Although brown rice is made in Kerala, this time you can serve jeera rice.

Sambar

Sambhar is definitely included in every festival of South India. Although it is preferred to eat with dosa, you can eat sambar with anything. You can add it to your dishes like rice, roti or even soup.

Rasam

Rasam rice looks very tasty but let us tell you that it is quite popular in South India. Its taste is very unique, and it is prepared with chillies and tomatoes. You can also serve it on your onam plate.

Avial

Avial is a traditional dish of Kerala. In which raw bananas, beans, green vegetables, potatoes, carrots etc. are added. In Kerala, it is made in a very different way and the flavour of raw mango is also given.

Kheer

Onam's plate is incomplete without Kheer. You can make kheer in many ways but 'payasam' is very popular in Kerala. You can also prepare it with the help of jaggery and coconut milk.

Papadam

Papadam is like regular papad which is definitely included in the onam thali of Kerala. You will find many varieties of papadam in the market such as potato papad, lentil papad and sago papad etc.
