Adi Shankaracharya's penance is sinking...

Adi Shankaracharya performed his penance on joshimath land between the eighth and ninth centuries, but it is already crumbling. Adi Shankaracharya played an important role in the establishment of this city. The follower of Adi Shankaracharya established four monasteries in four directions. Govardhan Math in Puri, odisha in the east, Sharda Math in Dwarka in the west, Sringeri Math in mysore in the south and Jyotirmath i.e. joshimath in the north. It is from here that the story of the formation of joshimath begins.

Penance is sinking

Joshimath has been the penance place of Adi Shankaracharya. After spending time in joshimath, he worked on the reconstruction of the Narayan temple at Badrinath. He died in Kedarnath. It is said that Adi Shankaracharya got the knowledge under a tree in joshimath itself. It is also called Jyotirdham. Now people call this tree Kalpavriksha.

There are many memorials related to Adi Shankaracharya in this city. A ruined cave is also in this city, where Adi Shankaracharya did penance, there is also a temple of Lord Narasimha. It is believed that devotee Prahlad did penance here, and then Narayan appeared after tearing the pillar.

The Adi Guru Shankaracharya's seat of penance, Jyoteshwar Mahadev, has developed cracks in its innermost sanctuary.
