Over 10,000 songs were sung by veteran singer vani Jairam before her death at 78. Vani Jairam, a famed playback singer who received National Awards and this year's Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour, was found stabbed to death at her chennai home on Saturday. She was reportedly discovered dead and bleeding from her forehead at her home in Chennai's Nungambakkam neighbourhood on Haddows Road. Age-wise, she was 78. The residence was visited by a forensics team in the evening, who took samples.

Vani Jairam produced timeless chart-toppers in partnership with some of the biggest composers from a variety of sectors. Numerous songs in tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu, and Oriya have been recorded by the talented singer.

She has given numerous performances both domestically and abroad. 

She has received three National Film Awards for Best Female Playback singer, it should be emphasised.She has also received awards from her state's counterparts in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Odisha.  A professional vocalist for 50 years, vani Jairam has more than 10,000 songs on record. She has collaborated with eminent composers like madan Mohan, RD Burman, KV Mahadevan, MS Viswanathan Ilaiyaraaja, and OP Nayyar, among others.
