Tomato growers in karnataka turned crorepatis!!!
Around 15 tomato farmers in karnataka have also become crorepatis as a result of the kitchen staple's record-high price rise, joining farmers in telangana and maharashtra in this category. After Nashik, Kolar in karnataka is the second-largest tomato market in the nation. The district grows tomatoes on close to 20,000 hectares, producing more than 12 lakh tonnes yearly.
Since the time the tomato prices skyrocketed, the farmers who are becoming wealthy with this "little red gold," as they call to the crop, have earned between Rs. 80 lakh and Rs. 1 crore and higher if they own 8 acres or more of land.
Since the shortage started in mid-June, a crate of 15 kilogrammes of tomatoes has been selling for anything from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000, making the basic close to 20 rupees per kilogramme. White fly and leaf curl disease were the primary causes of the original shortage, but ongoing rains have worsened the situation, according to a farmer who spoke with news agency on the phone.
Unwanted to be identified, a trader-farmer from Mandya mentioned how there have been cases where a couple of farmers have profited close to Rs 4 crore by selling their premium tomatoes, which are in great demand in states like Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
