India produces 15 lakh engineers every year!!!
India is known for its engineering talent all over the world. Every year, about 15 lakh engineers are produced in India. This number is the highest in the world. But still there is a big difference between the number of engineering graduates and the employment they get. Only a small part is successful in getting a job.
NASSCOM conducted a similar survey in 2019 which revealed that india produces 15 lakh engineering graduates every year. Out of these, only 2.5 lakh are successful in getting a job. This means that about 83% of the students are not getting a job even after doing engineering. Only 1 out of every six graduate engineering students gets a job. At the same time, among the new engineers graduating from AICTE recognized colleges, about 50% got a job between 2017 and 2018.
NITI Aayog had said in a report in 2022 that about 48% of engineering students in india are not getting jobs. The commission emphasized that there is a need for improvement in higher education and skill development so that students are able to get jobs. Meaning that the education system needs to be changed in such a way that it can provide the necessary skills and knowledge to the students. Which can help them get a job.
Why is there no job even after degree?
Narayana Murthy, a famous entrepreneur of india and co-founder of Infosys, commented on the education system of the country. He said, "Engineering colleges in india are producing only 25 percent capable engineers and about 80-85 percent of the youth are not eligible for any job." NASSCOM President Debjani Ghosh also recently expressed concern about the lack of skills in the IT sector. He said that due to lack of necessary ability, IT companies have to spend more time and resources in training new graduates before hiring them.
