Applications to Open for 1,964 Vacancies in 70th Combined Examination

The bihar Public service Commission (BPSC) has announced a significant recruitment drive for its 70th Combined Examination, offering a total of 1,964 job openings—its largest ever. This creates substantial opportunities for job seekers across Bihar.

BPSC Chairman Parmar ravi Manubhai noted that this year’s recruitment is unprecedented, attracting candidates from all over the country. A notable change this year is in the scoring system: for every three incorrect answers, one mark will be deducted from a correct answer, a modification from the previous rule that deducted a mark for every four wrong answers. This aligns the examination style more closely with that of the Union Public service Commission (UPSC), emphasizing careful answering.

The BPSC anticipates receiving between 800,000 to 1 million applications this year, with the number of vacancies nearly doubling from last year, which had 400 to 800 posts. Given the increase in available positions, competition is expected to be fierce.

Exam Structure
The preliminary exam will consist of 150 objective-type questions to be completed within 2 hours, with negative marking included. Only one-tenth of the candidates who take the preliminary exam will qualify for the Mains exam.

The Mains exam will comprise two compulsory subjects and one optional subject. Compulsory subjects include General hindi (100 marks) and General Studies (Paper 1 and Paper 2), each worth 300 marks. The optional subject will also carry 300 marks. Candidates who successfully pass the Mains will then participate in an interview worth 120 marks, after which a final merit list will be compiled.
