How will the new UGC rule affect the faculty and students?
Retired economist professor Arun Kumar from JNU said, 'If the Vice Chancellor has a particular ideology, then the faculty will also appoint people with the same ideology. Like, in JNU, all the appointments are being made of people associated with bjp and RSS. This used to happen earlier as well. When there was a congress government at the center, there was pressure from them. But then at least they had some capable people. Today, such people are being appointed who do not have any knowledge. When the faculty will not be able to teach properly, then the students will also lag behind. Whereas, every kind of idea should be given importance in the university, they should have the freedom to discuss it.'
Professor Arun Kumar explained, giving an example, that earlier there was a very good vibrant advertisement in JNU. Meaning, the children had an energy and were full of enthusiasm. Earlier, discussions and open discussions were going on everywhere in the campus. Now all this has stopped, even if it happens, a good atmosphere is not found. When there are discussions and open debates, new ideas are generated in the students. There are many such universities where when a Vice Chancellor with a particular ideology came, the condition of the college deteriorated.
On the other hand, professor CP Singh says that it is not a matter of ideology. Actually, there is no ideology at all. It is only self-interest. people join parties and look after their own interests. If politics was run by an ideology, then no leader would leave one party and join another.
