Cases of cyber fraud are increasing continuously in the country and due to this people are suffering huge losses. According to the information given in the Lok Sabha, in the first 9 months of the current financial year, people have suffered a loss of Rs 107.21 crore due to cyber fraud. In the last few years, a huge increase has been seen in wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>digital payment in the country. This has made people comfortable, but along with this, cases of cyber fraud kept increasing. If we look at the data of banks and financial institutions, a worrying trend is coming to the fore. For the last few years, frauds worth more than one lakh rupees are increasing rapidly. In 2015, 845 such cases were registered, in which a total loss of Rs 18.46 crore was incurred. In the financial year 2024, the number of such cases had increased to over 29,000 and people had to suffer a total loss of Rs 177.05 crore. So far this year, 13,384 cases have been registered and the loss is worth Rs 107.21 crore.

Being targeted in these ways                     

The Finance Ministry said that people are being targeted in different ways including accounts with incomplete KYC and phishing attacks. These days scams are going on in the name of everything from hotel booking to courier delivery. To avoid these, extra caution needs to be taken.

How to avoid online scams?

Do not fall prey to the lure of attractive advertisements appearing on social media.

Do not trust messages, emails or other files received from unknown or suspicious persons. Never click on the links given in them.

Do not give your sensitive information to any unknown person.

Always use the official website for booking or inquiries. Verify it before making payment.
